North Hykeham Relief Road (A1461 Bypass) · A607 · Waddington

Dust from the North Hykeham Relief Road, Lincoln's new bypass. Documented, day by day.

Residents on the Waddington Heath estate, beside the A607 corridor, say dust from the Balfour Beatty construction works is getting inside their homes, not just settling outside. Families with young children and babies are among those raising concerns. This site gathers the evidence and gives residents one place to report what they're experiencing.

This is an independent, resident-run site. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Balfour Beatty or Lincolnshire County Council. All content is based on resident reports and evidence, and will be reviewed and kept up to date.

01 - Why the dust matters

Dust doesn't stop at the site boundary.

Since works began on the North Hykeham Relief Road, residents say dust has moved past gardens and cars and into their homes: on furniture, worktops, and in some cases children's bedrooms, even with windows kept shut. Contractors have pointed to water bowsers and damping-down as evidence of control. Residents' own photos, taken indoors, tell a different story. This site tracks that gap using dated evidence from the people living with it, including households with babies and young children.

The relief road - the new A1461 dual carriageway many locals simply call the Lincoln bypass - is being built by Balfour Beatty for Lincolnshire County Council. The five-mile route links the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass, completing the ring road around Lincoln, with a new roundabout where it crosses the A607 Grantham Road near Waddington. Main construction began in May 2026 and is expected to continue until 2029, which is why residents along the A607 corridor are documenting the dust now.

02 - The evidence so far

What the dust evidence shows.

Suppression

Is dust suppression actually happening?

The contractor points to investment in a water bowser as evidence of control. Resident photos, taken on dry days when the site is active, appear to show little sign of it being used with any consistency, and dust reaching well beyond the site boundary.

Health & property

What's the impact on homes and daily life?

Dust is being reported inside homes, not just outside: on windowsills, worktops and in children's bedrooms, in households that keep windows shut. Several residents, including parents of babies and young children, have reported new or worsening coughs during this period. Causation isn't established, but the pattern is being logged and taken seriously.

Accountability

Is monitoring independent and transparent?

Dust monitoring, where it exists, is currently reported by the contractor about the contractor. Residents are asking for independently verified data to be shared, and for someone outside the project to confirm whether current controls are actually adequate.
